Foundational Decoding Series

    Continuous onsets only

    Every initial consonant can be held (/mmm/, /sss/). Stop consonants (b, d, k, p, t) as onsets are withheld until Set 3, so students can connect onset to vowel without the schwa distortion of 'buh'.

  2. 02

    Nasal exclusion

    No vowel is followed by m or n (no 'man', 'fin'). Nasals color the preceding vowel and destabilize the target short vowel sound.

  3. 03

    No /l/ or /r/ after the vowel

    Words like 'fill' and 'for' are excluded; liquids distort the vowel.

  4. 04

    Typography

    Atkinson Hyperlegible at 28pt, single-story 'a', 1.6 line spacing, no italics, no decorative borders.
